Making Homemade Baby Food

Introducing Maverick to food has been such a fun (and very messy) experience.  I knew from the beginning that I wanted to make my own baby food. I love cooking and this allows me to know exactly what I am feeding my little guy! PLUS it’s also way cheaper (but not always more convenient) than buying the prepackaged food from the grocery store.

Maverick is obsessed with carrots right now so this was today’s project! I chose to use baby carrots since it cuts out the pealing process. I coated them with a tiny bit of olive oil and roasted them in the oven at 450 degrees for about 45 minutes.

I then let the carrots cool before placing them in my food processor. I slowly added water and blended  until smooth (I think in the end I added a little over a cup but it will depend on the texture you are looking for.)

Once it reached the consistency that I wanted, I transferred the puree into a few small containers for the refrigerator (we plan to use these for meals through the week) and the rest I put into these Kiinde breast milk storage bags. These were the bags I received from my insurance along with my breast pump right before Maverick was born, and it turns out they make great baby food pouches!

And it looks like Kiinde even has some baby food adaptors to make the process easier! (I don’t have it, but might have to get it in the future!)

We are working on a bit of a mixed approach of baby lead weening and purees and doing what we are most comfortable with. Right now Maverick is really enjoying carrots so I thought I would share! If you are interested in more about what our little man is trying, let me know! I would be happy to share more of his little foodie adventures.

xoxo
